A visit to Lake Dyer with John Hadley this-afternoon turned up the four
Painted Snipe.
Three males, and one more distant bird that looked maybe juvenile. The males
all had really well-coloured banding on their wings, and I know the
immatures are similar, but the colouring was so bright that I'm guessing
maybe newly adult birds.
Plenty of Glossy Ibis, lots of Red-necked Avocets, Yellow-billed and Royal
Spoonbills, several White-necked Herons together, two male Chestnut Teal
(always scarce in the Lockyer Valley), several Marsh Sandpipers, but no
Sharp-tailed Sandpipers remaining.
Pink-eared Duck, Cockatiels going to roost, lots and lots more of all the
birds one would normally expect on and around Lake Dyer.
