g'day all,
Andrew Taylor mentions a single high tide per day.
This is what  we have most of the time just up the road from here at the Gulf of Carpentaria.
On the few days a month there are two tides, there is hardly any tide.

(Coincidently we also have the famous Morning Glory phenomenon like some other one tide a day locations.)

If you look at the 7 day forecast for Karumba for 6th  to the 12th
it can be seen
... that some days the tide changes at the same time as the previous day
... sometimes not

One summary of the "one tide a day" conundrum is by Dr Karl (Kruszelnicki)
He also uses a bathtub analogy.

Although the tides move in mysterious ways, the birds still know when to feed !
And thus the Gulf birds must stuff themselves on the single daily tide ?

Regards, Bob Forsyth, Mount Isa, NW Qld.
