Thanks for expanding the confusion, Philip. Chambers Science and Technology Dictionary (1988) defines endemic as: A species or family confined to a particular region and thought to have originated there. (It also define endemic as : A disease permanently established in moderate or severe form in a defined area. I guess that would apply to birding). It also defines 'indigenous' as : Native, not imported.
