Hi Gillian
It's Anas crecca, the Green-winged Teal from North America.
I've never heard of any in Australia, although I guess someone could have
them in a collection.
John Long in his "Introduced Birds of the World" says that some "were
imported into New Zealand between 1871 and 1905, but it is not known if they
were released in the wild".

Can anyone tell me what species of duck this is and where it's from? It
appeared as the duck photo on a Western Australian wetland CD-ROM, but it
isn't an Australian species.
Regards
Gillian
