I didn't say "laugh". What  I said was "smile", meaning  the cynical smile
of politics and bureaucracies.

 I can recall John telling me how he received so much criticism  and
opposition from govt depts about his methods, they even tried to close him
down a number of times.

His methods were/are a threat to their tried and failed antiquated
approaches to conservation.

But he proved them all wrong and, like all good phoenixes,  will rise again.

Truly a tragedy that he received so little support . A triumph of blind
bureaucracy over common sense and experience.  ----- yet again !
