As some of you already know, the female
Painted Snipe is still easy to see at Banyule Wetlands [Melway ref. 32
F1].  Park your car opposite 255 Banyule Road in bay with bus stop.
Walk short way south through native garden, many new trees planted with 3
sticks & green bags.  Come to a fence which has a cyclone type
gate.  The gate will be just to your right.  Walk about 20
paces through grass to northern edge of a ?grubby? pool.  For those
with a GPS, the co-ordinates are: 37 44 51 S, 145 05 15 E. (thanks to

October
A Turquoise Parrot was flushed from the side of the main road, 15km south
of Dargo, clear views of the blue on wings and face, as well as the
bright yellow breast and bright green plumage ruled out blue-winged
parrot, thanks Nick Leseberg.

24 October
At a property near Nagambie some excellent sightings including
Dollarbird, Crested Bellbird and Diamond Firetail, thanks Tania
Ireton.

23 October
An albino Galah was seen amongst a flock of Galahs in the LaTrobe Valley,
thanks Gordon Stewart.

21 October
A week after the sighting of a Great-crested Grebe on 4 October this bird
was found dead in the same location. There were no signs of damage to the
bird and it has been passed on to the Museum of Victoria. Another
Great-crested Grebe has now been sighted on Lake Victoria not far from
the pond at Emily St Point Lonsdale, thanks Ron Corinaldi.

21 October
A male Painted Snipe was seen at Banyule Flats in Heidelberg on the edges
of a small pool at the northern end of the swamp, thanks Gina
Hopkins.

20 October
A male Orange Chat was seen at Griffith's Island, Port Fairy on the rocky
beach about 500m west of lighthouse, thanks Steve Clark.

20 October
The first Noisy Friarbirds of the season are arriving in East Gippsland,
with one being seen at Providence Ponds, east of Stratford, thanks Duncan
Fraser.

14 October
A pair of Turquoise Parrots were seen at the Box-Ironbark rally at Paddys
Ranges State Park, thanks Debra Saxon-Campbell.

14 October
A White-browed Treecreeper was seen within 300 metres of the (southern or
main) entrance gate to the park in unusual habitat - Black box/Moonah
woodland in Wyperfeld National Park, thanks Peter Lansley.

13 October
A return trip to Werribee Sewage Farm resulted in 104 species for Tania
Ireton, including notably 1 Common Tern, 8 Grey Plover, 3 Red Knot, 1
Whimbrel and 2 Bar-tailed Godwit at The Spit and a Crested Shrike-tit at
the corner of Farm Road and 160 South Road.

13 October
A male Sacred Kingfisher was observed in suburban West Brunswick, a mere
4 kilometres from the Melbourne GPO! thanks Jan & Alan
Flack.

12 October
A Ruddy Turnstone was seen near the Cafe at Rickets Point, Beaumaris,
thanks Alex Farias.
