Just to confirm previous reports, the Painted Snipe was present at Banyule at
the 'Lagoon with Rubbish', on the northern-most side of the wetland - the side
closest to Banyule Rd. As described previously, look around the green plastic
bag on the southern side. A good viewing point (as of yesterday at least) was
next to the large metal gate on the top of the rise - look for the Grey
Butcherbird feeding its young.

I was there between 2:30pm and 4:00pm. It slept to about 3:15, awoke and the
prodded about a bit. Around 3:45, a couple of moorhen muscled past, which
seemed to drive the bird back behind the grass tussocks immediately behind the
green bag - at which point it remained very well hidden, occasionally popping
HIS head out for a timid look. Please note: Latham's Snipe are quite common
here, so please don't get confused.

Best of luck,

Tim
