On Monday, we found two Black-tailed Native-hens on a swamp close to Lake Atkinson in the Lockyer Valley. I'm aware of one other valley record in the last thirty years, but this is the first time I've seen these birds so far east. Native-hens are prone to irrupt, and where there are two, there could just as easily be twenty more hidden nearby! This is the same piece of swamp where we saw a group of five Latham's Snipe last week. Bill Jolly "Abberton", Lockyer Valley, Queensland.
