Made a brief visit to Pitt Town Lagoon (approx.
50-60km north-west of Sydney) late this afternoon. There still appears to be
good areas of mud for both crakes and waders. Saw no less than 17
Red-kneed Dotterels (can't recall seeing this many in any place
at the same time previously), 13 Sharp-tailed Sandpipers, 1
Marsh Sandpiper, 2 Latham's Snipe (atleast one
stayed still for quite sometime for lengthy observation on the edge of the
lagoon), 5-6 Australian Crakes feeding at the same time (one
was seeing chasing another and another seeing bathing in shallow water and
preening) and a single Baillon's Crake.
