G'Day all
A sight more often seen across the lignum flood plains of the inland
rivers, Black-tailed Native-Hens are irrupting around the northern
suburbs of Adelaide.. This morning at the Salisbury North "Kaurna"
Wetlands (At the intersection of Waterloo Corner Road and Bolivar Road)
approximately 20 km north of the CBD, many hundreds were flocked in the
woodlands surrounding the swamps. There have been a few about these
wetlands for most of the year but about a month ago, numbers began to
increase. There are large numbers at St Kilda also and where we live
near Virginia, Native-Hens are living under the melaleuca hedges
surrounding the house.
Rufous Songlarks have also turned up in good numbers this year, in the
same general locations as the Native-Hens. At present, several pairs
of Rufous and Brown Songlarks appear to be breeding in the paddock next
to our house at Pellew Road Penfield. It is a joy to hear them both
singing constantly.
