G'day Everyone,
If bird authorities and organizations continue to add
more weight to a bird by banding then the obvious will
happen? The end result will a more muscular bird ...
perhaps not that far down the track we could even see
birds entered for the Olympic Weigh-lifting
championships :-],
Featherweight division .... and whilst on that topic
I'm so glad that the final gold medal tally for the
Sydney games now includes a gold medal awarded to Oz
Dollar ..... for diving :^D
What proof do we have either way that banding does or
does not harm birds? if the band is not secure then
this creates the large possibilty of the bird being
snagged or caught .... if the bird being tagged is of
a very light weight then without doubt adding banding
tags must cause an increase in the possibility of
harming the bird? as does the activity of bad netting
practices.
I think it's time a code of conduct was introduced?
for ALL activities that involve bird/human CONTACT.
My humble two-penny gwynne worth, tagging penguins
slows their speed and makes them more vulnerable to
shark predators.
When will we allow them to fly free? or are we so
jealous of them?
