Hi all,
had a great record today of 2 x Mangrove Gerygones at Bonnie Vale
in the Royal NP, (southern Sydney). The distinctive call alerted me & at
first I was thinking of White-throated Gerygone, but as soon as I saw the
mangroves I thought MG was more likely. I took the small track around to the
rear of the patch of mangroves where the call was coming from & I located
two birds in a small tree adjacent to the mangroves. I had excellent views
for 5 minutes or so & the birds in the same tree when I left. The most
distinctive feature (apart from the call) was the larger size compared to
Brown Gerygone & the lack of the greyish cheeks - the eyebrow extended not
much past the eye, similar to Brown Gerygone.
Also saw Chestnut-rumped Heathwren, Horsfields Bronze Cuckoo, Brown Falcon,
Whistling Kite, Tawny-crowned Honeyeater on the Mount Bass trail in thh
Royal NP this morning.
And another interesting sighting, before I forget - I saw a Wedge-tailed
Eagle at National Falls in the Royal NP on Wednesday of last week. That is
the first time I have ever seen this species in the Royal.
Cheers
