I must also note while discussing call variations between the newly
seperated Western and Mallee Whipbirds, the Western Fieldwren (formerly a
subspecies of the Rufous Fieldwren) also makes different calls to the Rufous
Fieldwrens futher north along the coast in WA (eg) at Shark Bay and
populations in other parts of Aust. The Western Fieldwrens, in call and
appearance, are probably more close to Striated Fieldwrens than the Rufous
Fieldwren.
