Hello Andrew and Birding-aus subscribers,
Thanks Andrew, for the etymology of "turtledove".
I endorse your comments (message below) that Simon Winchester's "The Surgeon
of Crowthorne" is a fascinating book. I read a library copy some months ago
and reckoned I'd buy it if ever I got the chance. Well, I've just ordered
it from Clouston & Hall's Academic Remainders. Sure hope I was in quick
enough to get a copy before it's sold out.
In case anyone else is interested, this is a paperback edition, priced at
$8.95 as a 'remainder'. It is No. 79 in Clouston & Hall's "Limited Edition
21" academic remainders list. In the same list, No. 18 is Stephen Debus'
"The Birds of Prey of Australia; A Field Guide to Australian Raptors", going
for $9.95.
The list quotes $3.80 for handling and freight charges for one book for
Australian customers; $7 for two books.
If you have a credit card (they appear to take all the common ones) you can
order by phone on 1800 026 168. To order by snail mail - "Clouston & Hall
Booksellers, Reply Paid 457, Fyshwick, ACT 2609".
Cheers
Syd Curtis
