Dear Carla Many thanks for that advice about not feeding wild birds. I hadn't appreciated the point about the impact on competition for nesting sites before. It's not mentioned in Ellen McCulloch's June 1999 Bird Observer article on "Feeding the birds. Right or wrong ?" nor in the NSW Volunteer Co-ordinators Network Natural Areas "Some reasons why you should not feed birds in your garden or in parks." (also 1999 I think - it was reprinted in our local Banksia Bulletin in Winter 1999).
