As I said in my reply to Penny, I don't believe secrecy will prevent
controversy over removal of ducks. But I would agree that the sooner a
removal is done the better. Once the ducks are there, the more accustomed
people become to feeding them, etc. There is also the danger that once
there are one or two farm ducks at the site, it becomes a dumping ground for
unwanted ducks, geese, etc. This happens with the so-called 'managed
[feral] cat colonies' in the US. The cats are there, so everyone with a cat
they want to get rid of (without killing it) takes it to the cat colony and
dumps it so kitty will have some company (in reality more likely to be a
bully cat that beats the hell out of it). I make my claims from quite
considerable experience in helping to resolve pest (feral) animal problems
in more settled areas. Secrecy just makes the problem worse. In every
case.

Mainly Warringah Council I presume, possibly also Pittwater who border the
lagoon from Deep Creek east to the entrance.
Well they have done "jigger all" I was down there yesterday and counted
about 50 farm duck/ Mallard mix-ups near the boat ramp at the east end of
the lagoon. Probably more elsewhere around the lagoon.
Penny Drake-Brockman is right, if the councils did the deed without fanfare
the bleeding hearts would be none the wiser.
