Winter in Melbourne is a magic time. When the tide is out at Altona, a western suburb, there are plenty of birds on the shore. As I drove along the foreshore today I saw Pied Cormorants, Pied Oyster Catchers, many Royal Spoonbills, Silver gulls, Pacific Gulls. There were Chestnut Teal out swimming, not far away were many Black-winged Stilts. Masked Lapwing were on the grass verges. White-faced herons were there too. Quite worth the detour.
