Hi all,
On Sunday I also had the pleasure of hearing many pardalotes, both
Spotted & Striated, working through the bush at Majors Creek River Reserve
(36'51"23S 145'04"11E) on the western side of the Goulburn River between
Seymour and Nagambie. Unfortunately didn't notice if they were
Yellow-tipped. A camping area provides a few secluded sites, although a
4WD would be required if it rains. The day picnic area has BBQ's, tables and
toilets overlooking Majors Creek. Azure Kingfishers can be found here in
the spring.
But I find the best birding is to be had just to the southwest before you
cross the bridge. There is a resident population of White-browed Babblers
here, and I think it could also be a possible site to find Speckled Warbler,
although I never have.....maybe wishful thinking.
Other birds seen on Sunday included Musk Lorikeet, Brown Treecreeper,
Restless Flycatcher, White-naped, White-plumed, Yellow-faced and New Holland
Honeyeaters along with Noisy Friarbird and Red Wattlebird plus some of the
more common species.
If you continue heading north, you'll cross another creek where there is
also some good birding. Park on the southwestern side near the dilapidated
old road bridge, then follow the creek, which necessitates going over a low
fence, which I presume is quite OK as the track is well worn from fishermen.
