Birdline Victoria Update for the week ending 10/6/01

At last a break in the weather with good
rainfall being reported over most of Victoria after the warmest June day
in Melbourne for three years on Monday.  This has led to a quiet
week on the reporting front, but there are now around 100 hits per week
to the site, so let's not forget to report those sightings when visiting
Birdline Victoria.

Also, if anyone has an further information about the Drongo in Wantirna,
please drop us a line so that others can go and see it.

June
While half-heartedly looking for the Spangled Drongo at Koomba Park a
single Wedge-tailed Eagle flew over being harried by Magpies.
6 June
A Whistling Kite was seen over the Banyule Flat, this is a bird that was
once a regular visitor but is now rare, thanks Richard Loyn
6 June
A Buff-banded Rail was seen at Cheltenham Park, on mulch near the highest
point and well away from water, this is the first record for the park of
BBR, thanks Michael Norris

3 Pied Currawongs were seen at Cheltenham Park near the South-eastern
corner, these are the first Currawongs seen at this park, thanks Michael
Norris
5 June
A Spangled Drongo was seen at the Winton Wetlands on a BOCA walk near
Koomba Park in Wantirna Melway Ref 63 D4, it was perched in a dry tree,
providing good views before flying 
4 June
6 Gang Gang Cockatoos were seen at Spring Park Public Golf Course, in
Dingley (not far from Braeside Park), thanks Chris Timewell
3 June
6 Crested Pigeons have taken up residence beside Bacchus Marsh Road a few
Kilometres north of Corio Village, at the corner of Western Gateway Road,
just before the Barwon Prison, thanks Russell Woodford
Late May
Spiney-cheeked Honeyeaters have been seen in the Bendigo region near the
Wellsford State Forest at Barnadown, thanks Chris Tzaros
24 May
A Grey Goshawk was seen at Kow Swamp on the western side, on powerlines
beside Kow Swamp Rd, thanks Dean Woodford
