Gooday all,
From my experience at Pring a QR Railway Depot to the North of
Bowen Qld. that has continually lit yards at night the following has
resulted.
Laughing and Blue winged Kookaburras are observed most nights
of the year feeding on moths, frogs etc.
Masked Lapwing are present and proving to be just as
aggressive during the night as they are in the daylight.
Nankeen Kestrels hawk for flying insects around the Diesel and
wagon Sheds.
Owls and Frogmouths are sighted along the roadway to Pring but
never near any lights or signal lights.
Interpretation
With the lights attracting a food source particular species
are maximising their intake during nocturnal hours. Survival of the fittest and
best adapted to the ever changing environment that we all live in.
Apart from the birdlife we also have rabbits, foxes. roos and
wallabies.
