Well, at least the Mallards occur in Australia, whether you like it or not.
Recently, in the west, a notable hospital with, dare I say catholic
connections, has advertised its ability to provide comprehensive care and
facilities to families. This care to cover the pre-natal monitoring and care,
the birthing, and the post-natal necessities of life.
The ad has, as an eyecatcher, a picture of two adult birds at their nest caring
for a young bird that fills the nest. The two adult birds are the southern
African Cape Batis, Batis capensis, but the bird in the nest is a young Klaas's
Cuckoo, Chrysococcyx klaas.
I have not asked the hospital administration whether they are promoting either
adoption or even surrogacy, but the picture was pretty.
Regards, Clive.
