Hi all,
at present we have two Nankeen kestrels 'residing' at out home. We have a
two storey house, with an air conditioner up stairs. The casing of this is
only about 400mm below the eaves - a nice little cavity. A few weeks ago,
we were finding droppings below the air conditioner, but thought nothing of
it apart from probably a few common starlings camping there. However,
whilst leaning out of the window to clean of the grime and salt spray, I had
the interesting experience of having both kestrels coming in close to say
hello. After regaining my sense of composure, and balance, I had a peek at
the top of the air conditioner and found various remans of dinners long
forgotten. Since then we have been keeping an eye out for the pair. We
often see them taking off from the air conditioner and flying around the
surrounding houses - bathing in the bird bath a couple of doors down, and
keeping vigil on the power poles in the court.
On the way to work last Thursday, the first Cattle Egrets of the season for
me were casually flying towards a lake near the Council depot in Corio,
Geelong.
Cheers
