Just a brief report on a camping weekend to the Goodnight (SW of Gin Gin, Qld).

Set camp up coming onto dusk to calling White-throated Nightjars. Early morning calls from an Owlet-nightjar before investigating unusually insistent calls from what sounded like Azure Kingfishers. Indeed, 3 Azures were on an exposed rock in the river performing their Wing-waving Display. Continued for about 15 mins & was a new experience for me.

The Goodnight is looking good with some early rain this year. Red-tailed Black Cockatoos hung around the river & a pair of young Bazas begged loudly near the campsite for most of the morning. Only one adult was present & it had it's work cut out catching Phasmids for them.

Not much blossom evident so the ever present Lewin's & White-throateds were only joined by the odd Scarlet Honeyeater. A small patch (? feeding association) had Fairy & Large-billed Gerygones, Brown Thornbills, Grey & Rufous Fantails, a single Spectacled Monarch & more unusually, a pair of juv/imm White-eared Monarchs.

It's pretty straight forward getting to the Goodnight off the Bruce Highway but if anyone needs details, just let me know.

Cheers,
Chris

ps, could I please have Ros Laundon's email if anyone has it? Thanks.
