Folks, particularly those in Sydney, Canberra etc.

The first of the 2001 Regent Honeyeater tree planting weekends will be held 5-6
May. This on-going project is restoring important breeding habitat for the
Regent Honeyeater in the Capertee Valley in central NSW (2.5 - 3 hours from
Sydney). So far over 20 000 trees and shrubs have been planted and another 7
000 will be planted on two sites in May.

I already have some 150 people registered for this weekend and more are
welcome. Accommodation ranges from camping at the famous Glen Davis camping
ground or on a local properties to staying in one of the cottages we have
booked in the valley. Accommodation costs are $20 a night for a bed or $5 a
night for the camping option. We ask people to be self catering although a
dinner, catered for by the local school P&C, has been organised for Saturday
night at a cost of $15.

As those who have been on one of these planting weekends will attest, these
weekends are a great experience being a social event as well as one delivering
real conservation outcomes. There's also the real chance of seeing a Regent
Honeyeater. All 115 people that come along to the August 2000 planting managed
to see the bird, with most also seeing an active nest.

A registration form is available from me.

Hope to see you in May
