John and others At Port Hughes York Peninsula SA, Rainbow Lorikeets have invaded the area, in numbers, in the last 8 years or so. Musk Lorikeets are the common lorikeet of the area. With the recent invasion most Rainbow Lorikeet 'types' are actually hybrids with Musk Lorikeet. On one day I counted 20 hybrids and no pure Rainbow Lorikeets. The hybrid's call is like Rainbow's but show significant Musk Lorikeet features. There are very few pure Rainbow Lorikeets in the area. The hybrids pair with each other and the plumage of hybrids is variable. Are there reported 'populations' of this hybrid no just individuals in other regions ? David D.
