Hi everyone,

As an occasional but hopefully more frequent overseas visitor to Australia, I would be sorry to see a watering down of the number of pelagic trips taking place.  For most birders visiting Australia, a pelagic trip is one of the highlights of their visit.  This was certainly the case with the Wollongong pelagic I went on last August.  Significantly, quite a number of the birders on this trip were from overseas and all returned to shore thrilled with what they had seen, even my wife who was seasick most of the way back from the shelf!  With work commitments it is difficult for some to get sufficient time off to justify the expense of travelling to Australia but at least with monthly pelagic trips to choose from, there is a reasonable chance of getting on one of these.  A reduction in the number of trips would make it more difficult for overseas visitors to get out to sea during their stay.

I'm certainly looking forward to my next pelagic (whenever that might be) and would like to take this opportunity to thank the organisers of the various trips (Wollongong, Eden and Brisbane) that I've been on in the past.

Keep up the good work!

Paul
