Subject: Threatened birds listed in Victoria (Aust.)
Some news regarding the addition of several bird species to the threatened birds
recognised in the Victorian 'Flora and Fauna Guarantee' legislation.
As published in the Victorian 'Government Gazette' on 21 December 2000, the
following species are now listed on Schedule 2 of the Act as 'threatened taxa'
in Victoria.
Australasian Bittern
Black Bittern
Little Bittern
Lewins Rail
Square-tailed Kite
Sooty Albatross
Baillons Crake
Caspian Tern
Gull-billed Tern
The following Potentially Threatening Process is listed under schedule 3 of the
Act:
Incidental catch (or by-catch) of seabirds during longline fishing operations.
Note that the listings refer to the taxa in Victoria only and a species status
elsewhere does not effect the Scientific Advisory Committee's Recommendation
Report.
Any inquiries direct to me please.
