Hi Birders - we need your help!!!
From December 2000 until August 2001 (with a
possible further time period), Birds Australia has been commissioned to
assess the impacts of landscape modification associated with the redevelopment
of Homebush Bay on the composition and abundance of terrestrial and wetland bird
communities in the area. The current project will involve monthly surveys
of all bird species at 41 sites across the Millennium Parklands, Sydney
Olympic Park, Bicentennial Park, Mason Park, and Hen & Chicken Bay at
Homebush Bay.
The survey design for the project is based on the
Birds Australia 'Atlas of Australian Birds Project' and will involve surveyors
searching a 2 hectare survey plot for a 20-minute period, recording the
composition and abundance of all bird species. Extra surveying will
include surveys targeting shorebird species at a number of key locations on the
Parramatta River.
Those interested would need to spare
only couple of hours for one day per month to survey a number of selected
sites across Homebush Bay. Those of you interested should contact me at
the details listed below.
Cheers
Peter
