White-throated Nightjar at Blue Gum Swamp Creek, Blue Mountains
G'day All,
with all this recent wet weather, birding has deen a little
difficult, but with a break in the weather last night there was only on
thing for it. I went frogging.
Unfortunately, it was a little too wet for some of the frogs I was
looking for, but just before dark I heard my first White-throated
Nightjar for the year. This was at Blue Gum Swamp Creek at Winmallee, in
the Lower Blue Mountains.
This area has also had Powerful and Masked Owl recorded in the past, but
they were not seen or heard.
However, just before I got back to the car I heard what I though to be
young Boobooks trilling nearby. I couldn't find them to be sure as it is
very early for Boobook chicks to be flying, I usually hear them in late
December and into January. Does anyone have records of
fledgeling/immature Boobooks for November
