Not so long ago, I commented about whether any Varied Trillers have turned
up in Sydney.

This week on NSW Birdline, Dion mentions of one that had turned up
at Woy Woy Golf Course a few days ago, which is also not far from where one
that turned up in someones garden in Umina several years ago (both areas are
roughly 80km north of Sydney). I am wondering how many Varied Trillers have
now turned up in the central coast? If it wasn't for the Varied Trillers
call, these birds would easily be overlooked and this may certainly be the
situation in the central coast and may infact be regular as far south as the
central coast area. One now has to turn up in Sydney as a new bird on the
Sydney list. There is good habitat for them in Botany Bay NP or the Royal
NP. Are these birds meant to be resident or part migratory in NSW?

I have personally only seen them in summer, which is the only time I happen
to be
in their more regular part of their distribution range (eg) places such as
Port Macquarie and Harrington on the mid-north NSW coast.

As I would say, the more observers out and about, the more we may find such
birds considered being irregular for the area a bit more regular. How many
observers out there are good at knowing their bird calls? (this being part
of the fact that makes some birds, especially the more elusive ones, being
more rarer than what they are)
