Subject: Topknots in Victoria (Aust.)
Further to Brett Lane's observation of Topknot Pigoens at Toora, South Gippsland
(Vic.)
The Atlas of Victorian Wildlife currently has just 20 records of the species,
with the earliest recorded observation from 1879 at the Gippsland Lakes and then
1917 from Mallacoota.
All records have been from around Bairnsdale (East Gippsland) east to the NSW
border, so Brett's observation is quite an extension west (~150km) for these
birds.
No doubt Brett will be putting in an unsual sighting form for this observation!
Alan Morris, what is the situation with the species in far south NSW?
