Mainly for Melbourne viewers In the City of Bayside (c20 km out from the CBD) there were records of Painted Button-Quails in the 1950s/60s. Since then there have been two of dead birds: one on the Royal Melbourne GC "killed by predator" 27/8/1985 one dead in Bluff Road (reported in the Bird Observer) 3/10/1999 This suggests they do come through in spring. Similarly with our possible and definite sightings of Stubble Quail. Brown Quail records (possible and definite) - the species lives on the western side of Port Phillip - are more scattered through the year.
