In haste at present, but just an ob on blackbirds outside towns; they certainly do colonise undisturbed habitats. In my experience, these include at least montane wet eucalypt gullies in the Brindabellas (west of Canberra), tall wet sclerophyll in Errinundra (NE Victoria) and coastal dune heath on Younghusband Peninsula, Coorong, south of the Murray mouth in SA. I don't regard them as at all benign, even in suburban gardens where they are aggressive to other low understorey birds. cheers Ian Ian Fraser, Canberra Environment Tours; Vertego Environmental Writing Consultancy GPO Box 3268, Canberra, ACT 2601 ph: 02 6249 1560 fax: 02 6247 3227 --- Birding-Aus is on the Web at www.shc.melb.catholic.edu.au/home/birding/index.html To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe birding-aus" (no quotes, no Subject line) to |
