Getting closer. The cut-off date for registering a Victorian team is
now less than one month away - 13 October 2000. Go here for your entry
pack forms:

And while I'm at it, here's another planning tip/aid. I find when
setting the race timetable for my team, it's very handy to know exactly
when it's going to get dark at night and light in the morning. As you
know, sunset and sunrise times are not the times when it gets dark or
light - that point is known as Official Twilight. The AUSLIG web site
has a couple of handy services for calculating official twilight (and
other times) anywhere in Australia.

First you need to establish the latitude and longitude of the location
where you intend to be at dusk or dawn
http://www.auslig.gov.au/mapping/names/names.htm

Then using that (and remembering to correct for Daylight Saving and your
local time zone - GMT +11 in SE Australia) go to
http://www.auslig.gov.au/geodesy/astro/astro.htm to calculate dusk,
dawn, twilight, etc for the chosen location.

We usually find that every minute counts, particularly on the first
day. These aids make planning for that a lot easier.

Cheers -- Lawrie
