At 11.52pm last night I heard a channel billed cuckoo flying overhead, calling joyously on his return in time for the Olympics, 7 hours earlier than last year! Andy Burton - can we claim this one for Willoughby? - he was, from the sound of it, quite high up. Walking in Centennial Park yesterday I was twice dive bombed and contact made, from a very protective noisy miner. Have they learned to do this from magpies? Lorna Bloom Middle Cove, Sydney.
