I heard a Koel late this afternoon in Mt Gravatt [SEQ] this afternoon.
[This was obviously a major event as it had Oscar (the brushtail possum
who lives in our leopard tree) poking his nose out of his box.]
I've been laid up with the lurgy over the last couple of days, and one
thing I've noticed is that a group of scarlet honeyeaters have been
constantly inhabiting a flowering paperbark tree outside my bedroom
[while they are transient types, when they find a good food source they
stick with it].
Another thing I've noticed is the number of times the noisy friarbirds
have been through the flowers on my grevillias - I suspect some flowers
are probed over a hundred times ...
Speaking of friarbirds, it is interesting to see that they are one
species that will drive noisy miners away [there are no noisy miners in
our grevillias once the friarbirds arrive].
