Michael Common Sandpipers in the Hunter River estuary in NSW utilise either the steep muddy banks of creeks off the main Hunter River (most common site) or are on the rocky retaining walls (this includes the occasional boat ramp constructed on discarded oyster shells). I have very rarely observed them foraging on mud flats with other shorebirds.
