Hi birders,

A Swift Parrot trip to the Maryborough district (Central west Victoria) last
week turned up 175 Swift Parrots in 15 locations, with 160 of these within 25km
of Maryborough. There are patches of flowering Red Ironbark and Yellow Gum, and
the lerp casings of psyllid insects on the eucalypt leaves are abundant, and
have attracted large numbers of pardalotes as well as being good tucker for the
Swift Parrots themselves.

I am aware that Chiltern is very quiet at the moment, but what of New South
Wales? Are flowering events underway on the NSW western slopes, the bloodwood
forests of the south coast or in Swamp Mahogany habitats? The Swift
Parrot-Regent Honeyeater survey is on May 20 and 21, and I am interested in any
observations of flowering at this stage. I may be visiting the Swamp Mahogany
habitats myself this winter.

Simon Kennedy,

Swift Parrot Project Officer
