THE BIRDS AUSTRALIA VICGROUP RESEARCH GRANTS

Information and Guidelines

The Victorian Regional Group of Birds Australia (VicGroup) invites
applications for the above research grants from postgraduate students at
Victorian Universities and Colleges. Typically, grants of $500-1,500 will
be awarded for the support of field-based research projects for one year.
Each grant may be renewed for another year provided that a second
application is made indicating that satisfactory progress has been made.

To be eligible for support students must be currently enrolled in a
postgraduate degree at a Victorian University or College. Applications
must be approved by the student's supervisor(s) and submitted by them
through the Institute's Office for Research and/or Graduate Studies Office.
A letter from that Office must accompany the application stating that the
Institution is willing to accept the grant and that it will be exempt from
all administrative and other charges. Grants are made on the strict
understanding that funds will be exempt from University or College
administration charges.

The closing date for the 2000 round of grant applications is 30/6/00.

The VicGroup Research Grants for 2000 will be restricted to projects
involving the study of woodland birds of Victoria. These include species
that are resident in, or migrate to, the Box-Ironbark woodlands of
Victoria. Fieldwork must be carried out in Victoria. Applications in the
following areas of research are encouraged:

· Fieldwork designed to gain an understanding of the behaviour and ecology
of woodland birds.

· Conservation biology of threatened woodland birds and management of their
habitat.

Applications will not be considered unless all necessary permits have been
obtained from the appropriate government authorities and ethics committees
or have been applied for and are received and copies forwarded to the
VicGroup prior to 30/7/00.

Application forms can be obtained from, and should be returned to:
