That's right, and on top of that, neighbouring Bookmark Biosphere - a vast
tract of mallee roughly 200 km by 100 km, basically a combination of State
Conservation Parks and semi-private Trust owned reserves - as well. The
Trust owned reserves are also in danger as one of the proposed routes of a
new power connector line from NSW to Adelaide goes straight through them. In
this case, the State Govt seems convinced that that would not be a good idea
and have indicated their preference of a route through marginal wheat
growing and sheep grazing country, but the farmers are not happy and are
being backed up by local government who in this part of the world still see
mallee as rather useless "scrub".
