John Gamblin's posting re the UK reminds me that many years back when
viewing ducks at a Northumberland pond my friend, when queried on a bird
he had binoculars on, said, "it's the ubiquitous coot".
Ever since then our group of birdwatching friends always referred to
that bird as a "UBE" {pronounced yoob}.
Silly, I know, but even now my wife and I still call the coot a Ube more
often that not !
