Hi John ;

Greeting from Denmark. 

I would be please to see a picture of that parrot !  

If not an australian parrot, my first thought was the bird is an 
escaped Peach-faced Lovebird ( Agapornis roseicollis ) 
( mayby one of the many different colour mutation ). - In the wild
this parrot live in south-west Africa, but of which there are 
produced millions in captivity. 

My second thought is that it could an escaped Hanging Parrot
( Loriculus ), of which there are several species. - But certainly 
not as common in captivity as the Peach-faced Lovebird.
