Here in Bayside (SE Melbourne) people tell me the female Koel recorded in the springs of 1986 continously until 1992 (the last good record being in Jan 93) always arrived about Cup Day. There was also an unconfirmed report around Cup Day in 1994. The bird(s) often located because of wattlebird alarms. And often (not always) associated with introduced (Ugh again) Moreton Bay Fig trees.
