Hi all,
With perfect weather birded in the Kerang district (North central VIC) over
the weekend. Lots of good birds around including a Red-necked Phalarope.
Highlights listed below

Terrick Terrick National Park 27/11 12:00-1600 Spotted Harrier (2),
Bee-eater (4), Diamond Firetail (2 adults with 4 imms), Western Gergone (1),
Hooded Robin (2 with 2 young), lots of Gilberts Whistlers and Rufous
Songlarks. Despite much searching around Mt Terrick Terrick no Black

Lake Tutchewop 27/11 18:00-1930 Little Eagle (2 in display flight), Orange
chat (30), White winged Wren (10 inc. 1 breeding male), Sharp-tailed
Sandpipers (500) plus smaller numbers of other common waders Silver gull
(200 breeding).

Lake Bael Bael. 28/11 0600-0900 I've never seen so many birds on this lake
before. Nothing particularly uncommon but numbers were astounding. The lake
is quite shallow and has dried sufficiently to form two smaller lakes. The
more northerly of the two was most productive with 56 species seen here
including: Grey Teal (12,000), Aust Shelduck (8,000), Pink eared Duck (700),
smaller numbers of other duck, White bellied Sea-eagle (1), Peregrine Falcon
(1), Banded Stilt (600), Red necked Avocet (700), Pied Stilt (3,000), Marsh
Sandpiper (100) Sharp-tailed Sandpiper (80), Pacific Golden Plover (2)
Greenshank (10), Whiskered Tern (300)

Lake Elizabeth 28/11 1015-1035 Fairly quiet except for a Black Falcon (1)
half-heartedly chasing starlings that were being flushed by the car as I
drove around the shore.

Swan Hill Sewage Works 28/11 1200-1500. Another really good spot with plenty
of good birds. Red necked Phalarope (1 in non-breeding plumage on the
shallow marsh below the main ponds. Allowed close approach (15 m) and seen
well through scope feeding and in flight), Freckled Duck (26 on the large
lake), Blue-billed Duck (15), all the other ducks one would expect, Aust
Crake (1), Black-tailed Native Hen (400), Silver Gull (breeding), Marsh
Sandpiper (6), Sharp-tailed Sandpiper (70), Red-kneed Dotterel (90),
Red-necked Avocet (400), Blue Bonnet (4).

Goschen Reserve (see other recent postings for directions). 28/11 1530-1700.
A few changes since my last visit but most of the really good birds still
around Black Honeyeater (30+ appear to have increased?) Pied Honeyeater ( 6
numbers down a little?), Crimson Chat (most appear to have left with just 1
seen), White-browed and Masked Woodswallow (many), Budgies (10), Cockateil
