David, 
There were only five teams in Vic this year, in contrast to nine last year. 
Last year our team won with 180 species, this year with 205. The record is 224 
by Peter Menkhorst's team, not sure what year. Must have been a bumper year 
similar to this year in VIC maybe with better weather (or greater skill)! It's 
a shame re the lack of interest as it's a great event and in some countries 
their bird races are world famous. So far I've only heard of teams in QLD and 
VIC, not a peep from NSW or other states. It's a sorry thing...
