Hi all the 'fun' season up here has started in style with already a range of goodies and now a Little Grebe, Tachybaptus ruficollis, at the sewage works. It's one of the dark-eyed races, which is helpful since it makes identification easier, though this and Australasian are remarkably different for such similar birds. I'd been watching for a few years for this one but was actually expecting it to look more like our normal grebe than it does. Nice to have things turn out easier than you expect; it doesn't happen often. If any worthwhile photos are taken I'll post copies on my website. Happy birding Niven ************ P.O.
