I would like to support the comments made by Keith Martin and would like
to point out that Pete Milburn, Lindsay Smith, Tony Palliser etc don't
"lead" these outings in any formal sense rather they are the organisers
and have their own agenda on these trips. As such I don't believe they
have any responsibilty toward the other participants.

Having said the above, I have always found the "experts"  to be
extremely helpful on the finer points of identification but you need to
to in close proximity and be looking at the same bird. In fact they are
more than happy to share their amazing knowledge in this area.

Seabirding is very tricky and unless you have a reasonable knowledge of
birding before you go on a trip, you are going to struggle to identify
the birds regardless of the instruction from the experts. In other words
these are not really trips for the beginner.
