I think previous postings have covered the points adequately. I would just
like to add that on the pelagic trips I have been on people were helpful
(and some exhibited Dramamin-induced lethargy), and I put this down to the
fact that I had done as much homework as possible beforehand.
I consider pelgics to be specialised seabirding trips, not tourism
ventures, and whale watching is a tourist-oriented business. On my first
pelagic Jim Beruldsen offered helpful advice on preparing a list of
possibles and distinguishing features in advance of a trip. In Sydney Alan
McBride saw me checking through Harrison's photo index and pointed out
their were errors in some of the descriptions. Tony, Pete Milburn and
Lindsay were also helpful on the Wollongong trips but were not there to
nanny me, they were there to look for birds.
I wouldn't want it any other way.
