Yes, US$450 is about the price of a discount Brisbane-Perth return
flight.

Presumably you would be spending a Saturday night in Tassie.

I would have thought you could get a discount Syd-Hob fare for about 
AU$3-400

Perhaps you could try a travel agent [they tend to be more forthcoming
with discount fares].
