Hi All,
As part of my PhD studies I have been catching and banding
Brown Falcons throughout the Western Treatment Plant at
Werribee. I will be looking at territory size and fidelity etc, so if any
of you are in the area and see a banded falcon, can you please
make a note of when and where and pass it on to me? The colour
banding scheme is the typical 2 colours on left and one colour over
service on right tarsus. Colour bands are either: Red, Black, Green
or Blue. The latter two can be a bit difficult to pick in poor light.
Most banded birds are on the northern side of Little River, although
I will be working on the south side in the next couple of weeks so
birds may turn up anywhere. The birds are also starting to nest in
the last week or two, so if you know of a nest I would also be keen
to hear from you.
My contact details in the field are Mbl: 0414 853 142,
my home number while down here is 03 52242938.
I would also appreciate it if you happen to see any of the traps I
have set up down there that you try not to alarm the birds within
them, they are checked frequently, if you have specific problems
feel free to ring the mobile number.
Also, if you happen to be looking at a Pectoral Sandpiper, Long-
toed Stint, Northern Shoveller etc, a phone call would definitely be
appreciated!
I hope I am not pushing it, but if you know of others working out at
Werribee I would be keen to hear of what else is going on.
Cheers and happy birding,
Paul McDonald
